Best way to to learn the water is too buy a map of the lake shows you boat lanes, submerged timber, roads and ponds. As well as depth. I've been out once as I'm a Martin creek lake guy. Stay south end for now to be safe the north end is in pretty rough shape. As for baits, I'm still figuring that one out my self. Personally I try to go through my whole worm bag till I find out what there biting, the day I went they were likening the watermelon red trick worm by zoom but were all dinks. EDIT I'm a soft plastic guy. I have a bunch of traps and cranks but don't know the colors for pines so didn't have any luck, also tried a few spinnerbaits and black and blue chatter bait and nothin

Been fishing Pines for years. I always throw junebug. A centipede or baby brushhog will be a good choice to try. Of coarse there's the greenpumklin red and watermelon red.
 Good luck and safe fishin'!!!!

Watermelon, watermelon red, junebug, pumpkin, black/blue are our most consistent colors. The lake is usually pretty off color, hence the darker colors. We mainly fish the upper end, so we are keying on vegetation, timber, and creek channels/cuts most of the time. Lower lake, you have some vegetation, some nice points, rip rap, etc. The upper end of Pines, north from 155 is my favorite body of water...hands down.
