Hey all! Moving to the great State of Texas in a few weeks from the liberal hellhole of California. Goodbye and good riddance!

I'll be the Internet Sales Manager at the local Dodge dealership, and on my days off, I plan of figuring out how to fish Texas waters for big bass. Out here in California we have some gigantic bass, but nowhere near the impressive amounts of bass (or bodies of water) that Texas has.

Curious to know if working the soft swimbaits is a viable method in Texas. Also, on the west coast, we use BIGGGGG trout-imitation swimbaits like this:

We also use what's known as "wakebaits", which are baits that stay just below the surface, but produce a wake:

These lures are deadly on "Mama Cass" sized largemouths out west. I'm sure it has plenty to do with the Ca DFG stocking so many trout in our lakes out here. Do you stock rainbow trout in texas?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to becoming a better fisherman every day off I have, with the occasional trip to the Gulf to catch some big tuna, amberjack, and wahoo.

Quick question... Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as lakes to try out? I would figure that Lewisville lake, Lake Ray Hubbard and Grapevine Lake would be the place to start, but I'm way out of my league right now. Any advice would be appreciated. And, by the way, when I get situated here in the DFW area, I'll make sure to take care of you guys when the need arises for a new vehicle for you or anyone you know.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome! Those should work fine, especially in clear water and in lakes/bodies of water that stock trout in the winter. Most of the lakes here have stained water (tannic) and trout won't survive June-->October

Keep an eye on the trout stocking report here (the 2013/2014 report should be published soon):

Soft body swim baits do really well. Take a look at the offerings from Fringe tackle to get an idea of what works well here:

Those swimsuits look very nice. Will be starting from shore and doing the buddy boating thing til I scrape some nickels together for my own sled. Do you guys use spectra to fluoro for your standard rigs?

Thinking of starting off with a swimsuit rig and a slow presentation worm rig.
