Caught this thing in Galveston this past Sunday while fishing for flounder. Anyone know what it is?

I thought it was a snake head.

My gut reaction is 'sculpin', but that's kind of a generic name for a lot of different fish.

Well I google sculpin and it says it has poisonous spikes on their dorsal fins. The one we caught didn't have any sharp fins at all.

Ha, I caught one as well one night in the rocks at Texas City Dike, and had no idea what it was, so thanks!

Happy fishing!

my son caught one of his cousins the stargazer. not sure if they are in the same family but only a face a Mama would love. he has caught one like yours off the old TCD pier and have always called it a gulf dogfish which from reading your link is just another name for it. http://www.rodnreel.com/gulffish/gulffish.asp?cmd=view&FishID=132
