I'm a college student up at Texas a&m commerce and have been looking for a pond to fish cause my dad won't let me take my boat up till next year. Well I found a pond behind the soccer fields on university property, and it's loaded with bass. For the past few weeks I've been catching 15 to 20 fish. Well today a cop asked me to leave because the university says its a liability! Out of all things college kids do, one would think that fishing would be encouraged! None the less, I still fish out there just early in the morning, but it chaps my arse that I get told not to fish! Sorry for the rant, but that's annoying!

Hey Texasbassin. My son is also a student at Texas A&M at Commerce. This is his second year there. He had some classes in High School so I think he may be a Junior. IDK??? You don't have to worry about him beating you to the pond. He's never been much on fishing. I tried though. Good luck with school!!!!
 Good luck and safe fishin'!!!!

It is rough. We were in a battle for 3 years just for the school to let us use boats in tournaments. Liability is a pretty big deal for universities though. Don't want anybody to steal the money they're stealing from students!

They are just looking out for your own good. I mean, you could hook yourself in the lip on a back cast and not be able to stop on the forward cast, effectively casting yourself into the pond. On the fall, I could see you breaking your rod and impaling yourself with it. Being so dumb founded by the whole thing, you forget to stand up and eventually succumb to the cold, cruel, 2-ft depths. Also (and I don't even get this), you somehow manage to poke yourself in the eye.

That pond was open for anyone to fish several years ago. A student drowned and it was closed. They can and will get you for trespassing if your caught in there. I know some of the school cops. You got lucky. If I was you I wouldn't press my luck. If you have a car you might try Bonham State park. It has a 65 acre lake that has plenty of bank fishing and is loaded with cats and bass. Good Luck Jim

had an old country boy tell me once that he had running rights to fish all the ponds in his home county, if he saw anybody he reserved the right to run like hell.
just sayin, you will definitely make worse decisions in college than fishing somewhere you're not supposed to.
