Okay picture first then story Yes, I was very happy and magically not cold anymore. It wasn't huge, but it will do. It was blowing 20mph+ at times, so my poor buddy spent half his time working to keep the boat off the wind blown shore. THANKS JEFF. BIG THANKS TO ALL THE posters who post info, so newbies like me can learn. We got all the fish very shallow, I would have never fished inside the islands in 8-10' and casted to the bank, if the posts and PM's didn't tell us to. Sometimes you have to just go fishing and this weekend was just one of those times. We had the time off and we went regardless of the weather. We got up Sat afternoon, hoping to get an evening run in and learn the area. Rain .. more Rain .. rainbows .. Sun .. nope more rain in the sun.. We sat at Highport restaurant until 5:30pm ish, the rain stopped and we put the boat in. We went straight to the island cut and Jeff got a nice sized stripper 18-19" on a 5" coho pearl minnow fishing the west side of the cut. He got another small one but no luck for me that night .. which sucked because I gave Jeff that lure to use. What sucked even more, is I changed to the same darn lure and still got nothing . 6am Sunday, windy, very cool out .. went to the Okie side of the north island and worked our way south casting to the shore. It was too windy, I think for top water, so I gave up and switched between shad and coho minnows. We got a few and missed a few .. Like you guys told us, keep moving. We would find a pocket then nothing. One Cast a few feet off the shore, and the striper hit it right as it hit the water. I tried pencil poppers and a smaller zara spook, but could never get a real topwater strike. We did see random fish break the surface, but nothing major. Around Noon, we went to the wood island cut and found a pocket of 19" inchers on the east side of the cut in 10'. I lost three , but got two 19" inchers on a smaller blueish shad swim bait. Twice they bent the hook and got off, so need to keep the bargain gear at home. All in all we had a good time. It was even more fun because we felt like we had a plan and it worked. Here are the best 3 .. and the lures that worked for us. THANKS AGAIN.

My buddy has an 18' Deep-V Alumacraft with a nice big tall wrap around windshield. The windshield was great to keep the spray and cool wind off you, but it also catches the wind and drifts the boat very fast. We had to work to keep the boat where we wanted it and most of the time we couldn't stay put and vertical slab. So we drifted and casted to the shore. Plus we are to lazy to anchor With the North and NorthWest wind blowing as hard as it was, we would not venture into the main lake, but the area around the islands is protected enough that you could could go and fish safely. If the wind would stay under 10mph .. I would even feel safe in my 14' tin boat. There is enough area and enough ramps, that I could pick a safe place to put in. If you look at lewisville or ray hubbard, they have longer north-south sections for the wind to build, than the narrow area by Texoma islands.

To: I fish, therefore I am: Something I remembered, we got rocked twice by huge wakes coming off some large cabin cruisers. Not that there are not large boats on Lewisville or Ray Hubbard, but the channel by Highport is only .5 to .7 miles wide. Keep your head on a swivel. Another note: We were not impressed with the food at the Highport restaurant "The Island" .. skip the Chili and appetizer platter. Here is a pic of a double rainbow over the Ramp at Highport. Jeff took this as we waited for the rain to stop.

Cool. Launched out of Highport late afternoon today. Helped a guy out whose boat come off the trailer when he was backing down the ramp...yikes! Seems he just had the runners replaced on the trailer and they were super slick. No stripers but got into a mess of white bass....thanks for the tip on the restaurant...it was closed by the time I got back in otherwise I was planning on a late meal.

Thanks for the report. It made me remember back to my first striper and how impressed I was with the battled it gave me. Thanks to fishing Buddy, Jim Hough for his patience teaching me the tricks of catching big stripers!
