The Heading Line was pointing in the direction I was running and the little boat was pointing off at a 45 degree angle away from the pointer. Looked like the boat was skidding sideways. This was either while on plan running or while idling around or on the trolling motor.
I'll have to try and find that menu and see if I can correct that.
Thanks

Did you index the Receiver to the Front of the Boat when you installed? There is an arrow you need to line up and point forward.

Is it mounted near the trolling motor? The Magnetic Field when Trolling Motor is stowed could effect the Electronic Compass of the Heading Sensor. I would give HB Customer Service a Call 800-633-1468

No, it's mounted on the Starboard rear corner about as far away from anything metal as I can get it.

Called Hummingbird Select Support and they didn't have a clue. They want me to send them a picture via email so they can see it. I'll get that done this week sometime.

Starboard is typically near the trolling batteries, do the cables to the trolling motor run up anywhere near the sensor? Even under the deck, they can interfere if closer than a foot or two (sounds like you have it farther than that, but doesn't hurt to take a look).

My boat is a Ranger 619 VS and the batteries are mounted down in the floor about mid way of the boat. I'm sure there may be some cables running to the motor controls along that side, but on a boat there is going to be some kind of wires or cables running just about everywhere. I sent the pictures to Hummingbird this afternoon. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

This is what it looks like. Notice the boat icon is 45 degrees off from the direction pointer.

Your making a turn in this image and that can happen with a heading sensor receiver. What does it look like when running straight.

Actually, it lines up with the pointer in a curve. I had just completed the turn and straightened out when I took these pics. I emailed the pics to Hummingbird Tech support, but have not heard back from them.

I've got an SI question. Say you were idling in 40ft of water looking for fish suspending at about 20 feet of water. Let's also say that you don't have much confidence in identifying fish on side imaging when they graph over the imaging of the bottom. Could you set your SI range to 45 ft on booth sides so that the screen shows the deep dark part as the biggest part of the screen? Would the suspended fish just show up in the dark part, making them easier to identify?

Doug Are you going to be at the Fishing For Freedom this year? I bought a 998c last Sept from David at Shut up and fish, really enjoyed the unit. Noticed initially that when I hit very rough water the unit would power down. Since I know the lake pretty well never bothered me, only use it when actually fishing. Lately the unit has been powering down a low speeds with little or no rough water. Today it shut down while trolling at low speeds on water that was like glass. I have checked the power connections, no issues there, the battery if fully charged. Is this normal for a one year old unit to just stop working. Thanks Chris
