I think it's a lot of fun to catch them on bass tackle, last month I went btb for bull reds and had a $10 rod on a small salt striker spinning reel, I caught 4 reds 30-40" on it and my rod snapped just about in half on the 5th but I landed 11 more that size on my half rod and it was a BLAST! I won't spend a lot on rods bc I break them all the time lol

Flyinryan watched the video you posted great video! My deal right now is i want to go but if i have to buy alot of gear I'll have to wait. Ive got a couple catfish rigs that may be used if goin btb,but for my first trip propably stay in calmer waters really would like to catch a big bull though

I just got back from Port A on a power boat and the reds were definitely ON. The best part were the kingfish. For about 40 minutes or so they were in a frenzy. Going airborne and corralling bait. It was amazing. This was about 40 yards from the end of the North jetty, in the channel. If you were very careful and conditions were right, it would be a pretty simple trip in a yak. I wouldn't do it as your first trip in the salt but after a few I don't think it would be too bad on the right day.
