Ordered a MC Solo reel over the phone yesterday and found it in my mailbox today. WOAH!!! Thanks David for the FAST service. I'm headed to the lake to do some "Field Testing" of the new reel, on the new 7' Bonehead Crappie rod loaded with Orange Bonehead Braid. Report to come. (Fish included I hope).

David is a great guy and very service oriented. If he has anything I'm in the market for, he is my go to guy!

I have a few of them reels, but have not had the chance to try them yet. Depending on the fish it may be a while since I soon will be trolling again.

Gave the Solo reel & the Bonehead rod a Good trial today. Didn't catch anything with it so I don't know about the backbone , YET but had a few very light bites not to mention I could feel every tick of brush. The rod is definitely a keeper. I'm not overly impressed with the Solo reel though. It's ok for a "line holder" but 2 important issues I have with the reel. 1. There is no anti-reverse. I was able to tighten the drag down enough to where it took a pretty good tug to strip line off but I'm fairly sure that if a 2# + slab was to grab my bait that I could easily loose the fish fumbling around trying to keep the line from stripping off the reel.
2. There is no level-wind feature. This means that the line easily builds up on one side of the spool or the other.
On the positive side, the reel is very light & easy to handle and on a light weight rod like the Bonehead, it balances well.
So, Wally, you coulda done just a little more to the reel & it would've been just about perfect.

If you are going to use that reel, you must learn to back reel. LOL

Totally agree that David is great! Just got my new Point 1 from him and the entire process of buying it was all anyone could ever ask for. Highly recommend him for any of your fishing needs.

thanks for the report on the Solo reel. I need another reel and rod...guess I will buy what rods and reels that work for me. Open to suggestions, but have not heard anything that will change my mind.
