So I have some Suffix braid that says 10 lb.

Then it is says 4 lb Mono equivalent. Does that mean it is only 4 lb?

I thought Braid is tougher than Mono? I have no choice but to throw it on my reel tonight TX rig with worm. The 30 lb I had on it I can not cast for nothing.

(note- lost a nice one with this 10lb before and went overkill with 30 lb. ahh the joys of learning....)

No it means it is the equivalent of an average 4lb test lines diameter

So it is whatever strength they say it is, but it is far thinner than the monofilament of equal test strength

This. But I have thrown 30 lb braid in all sorts of set-ups and have never had a problem. Hard for me to think of any set-up where I would throw 10 lb braid.

When braid first came out, one of the main selling points was that you could have a stronger pound test line, with a thinner diameter...

Another key thing to keep in mind, your rods and reels tell you what lb test line you should be using on them... while it is only a suggestion, and ultimately you can use anything you want, that does not mean you SHOULD use whatever you want...

Taking a few minutes to look at your rods suggested lure sizes, and your reels suggested line sizes can save you some headaches...

Fishing too small of a lure on too big of a pole is gonna frustrate you for sure, and likewise, fishing a huge lure on a small pole is gonna be almost as bad

if you don't know what you are lookin for to determine your line and lure sizes, PM me and I will square you away

30lb isn't overkill at all 65lb isn't even overkill its 15lb diameter. I won't use less than 65 on a baitcaster but use 30lb and flouro leader on a spinning set up. 30lb braid can't even handle a hard cast with a frog on a heavy action rod. The recoil snaps the line.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I am using it on a spinning reel. I cast pretty accurate on it versus my couple of bait casters. It is a 6 or 6"6" rod (just loaded it in the boat darn). Med action.

When I cast the 30 lb it just does not come off the spool good. It is the Cabelas brand. Can't get much distance when throwing it at or under docks. My reel is probably under size for 30 lb braid as well.

Part of the process I guess. Getting better at finding fish and lure choices. Now working on equipment combos with what lures, line, etc... making progress over this last year and a half though.

Spring comes and I am getting in my first Tourney. Ya'll better watch out!..haha

Heading to the water now to get on some of these pre front fish. Come on 10 lb don't fail me now!

You have too much line on the spool or you didn't spool correctly. If your reel spins clockwise the line should come off the spool counter clockwise when spooling the reel. Look on YouTube how to properly spool a spinning reel.

^^^ yup, most likely started the line backwards...

if you didn't already strip it off and trash it, you can either spool it straight from that reel onto another one (take the end, tie whatever knot you like to use, and put it onto the new reel, then open the bail on the other one before you reel all the line onto the other reel...)

or, you can re-spool it onto some other cylinder shaped thingamajig, and then back onto the same reel
