You don't need to run anything in a Mercury motor but gas in my experience.

Was told once you start getting in the 500+ hour range. You need too, or injectors get clogged and need to be sent out to get cleaned. I have 650+ hrs and the mechanic says they are starting to show carbon build-up.

I've got 750+ on mine easy and haven't done anything other than change the spark plugs and that red castle nut filter. I've heard more bad than good from running ring free, biobor, etc... in any motor. I may have just got lucky and got a good motor though.

I have run ring free in my Merc seemed to work just fine. I maimly just stick with Merc. products now like quickcleen, quickstor. I do use Sea Foam every five or six tanks.

Ive used seafoam on older carb motors and ones that were stored a long time. Its amazing how much carbon it will clean out of an engine

I run 2 oz. of each per 6 gallons on my 02 Merc 250 XB, Stabill, Seafoam, Quickclean. Engine runs like a raped ape, I did have my complete fuel system serviced last year due to fuel line deteriorating. Can set engine up for months and she fires right up & runs great.

I didn't even put it in my Yamaha, sure wouldn't put it in a Merc.

Mercury recommends using their Quicksilver products in your fuel. I use #1 and #2 (one of them is Quickclean) in every tank, and I use #3 (Quickstor) if the fuel may sit up for a while. I also switched from the Mercury oil to the Quicksilver (made by Mercury) oil to realize a cost savings for the same product.
My 36 year old Merc has flawless compression and runs great.

My friend use to sell yamaha outboards and swears by it.I use it in my 250XB...usually alternate it with seafoam because of the cost.
