Up fishing at Texoma today using live shad behind the Islands and reeled this ugly thing in. I immediately knew it wasn't a striper because it barely put up a fight.

You cant really see in the picture, but it also has a nasty set of teeth on it (which I noticed just before reaching to get the hook out).

I've never seen anything that looks like this w/ the exception of a piranha. Any thoughts?

I caught one too fishing there. Possibly a shad? Shad can get that big. Perhaps someone can chime in.

We caught one of those during the TSA tournament!!!! Dang thing had some mean looking teeth.

Thats no gizzard shad, probably a close meaner cousin though.

i always called them freshwater herring. used to catch them there while catfishing back as far as the 1960's so they have been in the lake for a while

Golden Eye. Known as Skipjack herring elsewhere. I've caught them before t Texoma. Nasty teeth on those guys. Had a big catfish take one off my stringer that I was going to show to people. Bet they would make good striper bait.
