I was cleaning some fish at the Martin Lake State Park the other evening when a gentleman walked up and asked if the fish here were safe to eat. He had just moved to Texas from Colorado and was told that the fish in this lake were not safe to eat and someone had actually died from eating them. (someone probably choked to death on a bone). I recommended him to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website where they have a list of all lakes that have been tested and their advisories. If you have questions about the lakes you fish, it's worth a look. It's for salt water fishing also. Hope they're bitin for ya!

It's kind of odd cause Martin Lake gets a clean bill of health and the bigger lakes like Sam Rayborn and Toledo Bend have advisories on their fish.

Dude the 375 degree grease kills a lot of harmful stuff. Mix that with ice cold beer, I think the harmful agents can't handle the extreme hot, and then the extreme cold. Haha

Assuming the person OP is referring to meant Steinhegan. That lake has a mercury advisory. You can't cook mercury out of fish, you cant purge it out of life fish. By all means eat up, nature will just run its course.

I have been eating catfish for 15 years out of the trinity river here in the grand prairie area. I know people personally that have been eating fish out of mtn creek for 40 years. Nothing wrong with them and they smoke and drink.
