Ok so I'm hooked on idea of some coastal fishing in November was thinking about it then won the salt tackle at gtg so that cemented the deal. Here are my questions will my bass rods be adequate? What kind of boat prep is needed?I know I need vhf radio and signaling device. Last question who else is interested in some redfishing in November as I am very aware of the power of the ocean and definitely don't want to experience it alone.

Are you talking BTB or in the bays? If you mean BTB for bull reds, your bass tackle will not be enough. I can recommend some good, inexpensive combos that will work if you're wanting to try BTB.
Let me know which you're talking about and I'll chime in with more suggestions. And either way I might be down to go with you. The weather gets much more unpredictable starting this month, so be prepared to be restricted to the bays regardless of what you want to do if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Most likely bays as this will be my first trip but if weather permits not against btb. I've never been interested in saltwater fishing until i got a kayak go figure.

I use my low profile reels for slot Reds, some times I end up hanging a big one and end up on a little sleigh ride but the bass gear works well in the marshes and flats.
Also, black drum tend to bite better in the fall than Reds. Don't be afraid to use some cut mullet or small mullet whole, life becomes a little more excited when you do that.
Some of your bass baits also work okay in the bay. The trusted spinnerbait is one, top water sticks and chuggers, soft baits like Asassins, crawdads, shrimp, worms, also will work.
I make and use inline spinners with softbaits and they kill the Trout and Reds. Can't add a pic right now, the WatchGuard got me blocked.

October is the best month for bull reds as the run is on. Bass tackle will work but is not recommended. I have caught thousands of bull reds on bass tackle over the years but now days I'm a little smarter and prefer larger tackle. He is also right about the black drum fishing being better in november! This bonehead fought the red he has on for 30+ minutes. Ended up being 44 inches long but look at the reel he is using! The same fish could be landed in 10 or less with the proper tackle

Thanks for advice,I have only been researching saltwater for about a month and now im obsessed looks like alot of fun. The ocean is one of the few things that freaks me out but catching a good fish on a kayak looks awesome.

Stick with the flats for slot reds and your bass tackle will work fine.

I'm thinking about going down there in November as well. Never done any saltwater fishing other than a couple times from the surf. Just started kayaking a few months ago and can't wait to get in the bays and marshes to try for some of those drum and trout! Maybe I can meet up with some of you there!!

I'll be chasing reds down at Goose Island State Park in November. If you're considering that area let me know; you're welcome to fish with us.

depends... u wanna target "Bull Reds" or eaters? for bull reds youll want something with backbone (med heavy or bigger) & a reel w/ more drag. for eaters a bass rod n real combo should work fine. a whole lotta this going on from the beach and piers right now. The Bulls have moved in! - notice his set up of course a bass rod with heavy line (20-40lbs) & your drag set correctly (for big game) will be a lot of fun w/a Bull Red on the other end too Don't horse em or ssnnNNAAAPPPP!!!!

4/0 hook minimum. WMG if you're going after Trout.

You don't need a ghetto heavy rig like what the guy above is using. I still use semi bass tackle. I say semi because it is a little large but I still use a curado 300 or Garcia record reel. The record holds 300+ yards of 65# braid and the curado is also spooled with heavy braid. My friend in the pic I posted had a regular heavy Loomis setup w curado. The rod just didn't have the backbone to horse the bulls in. I wouldn't use typical bass tackle.....BUT.... I modified my setup using a mag heavy GLoomis GL3. I can horse just about anything in when paired with the record. I have caught blackfin Tuna,Wahoo, bull reds, cobia and Striper w this "bass setup"... Rod rated for 2-8 oz and 40lb line Is this considered bass tackle? I guess it comes down to what you consider bass tackle. As far as typical bass tackle, I wouldn't use. I posted a pic of this setup so that you could see that a giant, heavy cheap setup is not needed. I prefer to stay light with smooth reliable equipment as opposed to going big and clunky. I will be down the second weekend of November, also heading down in two weeks.
