I don't know how many times I've had bass follow my crankbait all the way to the boat. What's sad is that it took me so long to figure this little trick out. Most of you might already know it but I'm sure this will help someone out there.
Before you reel your crankbait all the way in stop it for a couple second about 5 feet from the boat. Simple as that. It's hard to take the extra time every cast but you never when when that one cast can make a difference

I used to fish with a guy who would bring his baits to the boat and figure 8 them with the tip of his rod almost in the water, before pullin out of the water... I thought he was crazy, but it did work randomly... Always surprised me when it did...lol

I stop everything regardless of the type bait about 5 or 10 foot from the boat for a second or two. I have had fish just about every kind of bait there made doing this.
Retirement best job ever.

That's an old trick I used on Fork in the spring with a spinnerbait. Broke a rod or two along the way.

The figure 8 thing is something the muskie guys do up here. We fish for them on lake KinKaide from time to time. You can watch them follow to the boat. They are so focused on the bait they don't realize how close they are to the boat. I had a 50"er hit right at the boat after watching her follow 5 figure eights. Very cool never thought about it for Bass though.

Very cool never thought about it for Bass though. My thoughts have always been that it is not they are so focused that they don't notice the boat. They see the boat and now suddenly that thing they were chasing is trapped against it and trying to get away and makes an easier meal. I catch a ton right at the boat, I don't figure 8 at the boat though. I just pull the bait past me and then pull it back as I start the next cast. Achieves the same thing and doesn't add any more time between casts.

Try it with a T-rig/jig also Yup. I have caught a ton of jig fish on 4th and goal right next to the boat. The bad part is that is usually when you aren't paying attention anymore.
