Which jetty do you guys recommend to go catch some good fish during middle of November? Planning on taking the ole lady out there and putting her on a couple of fish. Any suggestions for tactics, bait, rigs? I appreciate the feedback!

It depends on how hardcore your lady is. The Packery jetties are a world more comfortable and easier to fish. And free on top of that. But the the $12 ride to the north jetty has just about always paid off for me. But if your lady gets bored of fishing after a couple hours there isn't much to do on St Jose other than look for seashells and if I pay the money to go I'm getting my moneys worth.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

what about the types of rigs? fish finder rig? lemon rig? what are some other ways to utilize a three way swivel? do spider weights work well?

I dont know much about rigs besides the one I buy. As for spider weights I wouldnt use them at the jetty personally with the strong current. I use 60 lb mono and setting my weight is dang near impossible. Just my 2 cents with my setup. The weight slides the top of the leader to indicate bites or is there another reason?! But if you were to use less than 40 or braided you should be ok as long as you can cast a solid 40-50 yards and get a weight set if you see your line floating I would just reel it in and fish the surf :p

thanks, on that rig you have there is believe it is called a fish finder rig, and that weight is actually a spider weight...

Me and my wife fished the Horace Caldwell pier last november caught lots of big reds, Wife likes it because it has a restroom and its comfortable, caught most off of the end using fresh caught whiting heads, kept the whiting and used the heads for bait, a pier net is a must to get them up. Oh and by the way it has a restroom, hint hint we fished all day, also has a store with food and a restroom, I guess you get my point, you fish longer if the girls have a place to tinkle, plus the fishing was great fished 5 days never had more than 5 people on the pier all day, caught lots of other fish also.

We were using 20 lb test main line 1 ounce sliding egg sinker tied to 20 inch steel leader with a 5/0 circle hook on 8' heavy spinning rods, caught the whiting on a double drop rig with small hooks and pieces of fresh dead shrimp on med action spinning rods which was fun in itself
