I finally got the lightweight rod I had been considering(1/2 wt TFO)and realized i didn't know the that many small creeks to fish. Apparently planning ahead isn't my strong suit, but I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for creek fishing around austin. I generally fish below longhorn damn on the Colorado and have fished Mckinney falls a few times, but really haven't explored around that much.

Unfortunately, right now, most of the creek spots I normally fish are too low. Barton Creek at Lost Creek and Onion Creek can both be great, when there's water. I have not been up to Brushy creek near Round Rock lately, maybe someone else can chime in on the level there.

I fished Barton at Lost last weekend and the water is up higher than ever due to the weekend rains. Bull Creek is hurting a bit, but I pulled a 25"channel cat out of there a couple hours ago. Shoal Creek has some great spots for Rio's and Greenies whith an occasional lurking LMB.
It's more than the catfish would do.

I got to go out this weekend and fished both onion and shoal creek. I caught four or five fish both times, which worked pretty well considering I was only out for a few hours each time. Any advice on where to fish Shoal Creek though? I had trouble finding many places where I could cast very well.

make the trip north and come fish brushy creek in round rock or the san Gabriel in Georgetown. Both are full with rios and sunfish with tons of small guads and large mouths.

I've heard Brushy Creek is a great place. How easy is it to wade?

Very easy, usually stays pretty shallow and all parts of the creek are typically accessible. Many times it's easier to stay in the creek than it is to try to walk around on the banks. Plenty of good access if you know where to look.

My therapist says she's happy I flyfish for the meditative qualities. Little does she know it's the cause of my PTSD.
