Well mine in tomball is doing just fine. It doesn't have the inventory or selection like Galveston that's for sure, but it does have a good amount of fishing stuff. Love the employee's here, they all are pretty knowledgeable about what they talk about. But you're right, they may be downsizing for a new model. But who can blame them, if it sells, make it better, and sell some more!

Or one in Weatherford! You would have the market all the way to Abilene if they built one here

Perfect! I had no idea this was coming.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I like the reel but hate the rods, lures and line. The h20 frog is hands down the worst frog I've used.the squarebill arnt bad but I don't buy those either.

The Academy in Corpus Christi doesnt seem to be lacking. Its got to be the largest Academy I've been in and I've been in a bunch of them. The layout for the Gun and Archery is really nice, off the chart nothing like the other stores. I bet they have a Camo hootus for a hobby horse.

For a saltwater town they had a really good selection of Bass Stuff too.

Its a nice freakin store and I havent seen anything like it Houston.

I was there the other day too. I thought the same as you. Much better than the south Austin location nearest me.

I stopped in the Academy at 183 and I-35 today in Austin. I bought two H20 Mettles for 29.98 and over 50 packs of Big Bite Bait packages for .69 each!!! I also saw Havoc baits all on sale for 1.99 a pack.

I bought a bunch of other stuff for less than $5.00 per item to give away as door prizes. If you'll actually SHOP Academy and not just go in looking for one particular item; they have great deals everyday!!!

Also bought a bunch of bass fishing t-shirts for less than $5.00 a piece!

Academy's fishing section is smaller in those stores that don't sell as much fishing merchandise as some of their other stores. They stock stores according to percentage of sales by category. A store in Corpus is going to carry ten times the saltwater tackle of a store in Tennessee or even Dallas. A store in Dallas is going to carry more freshwater bass gear than a store in Kentucky. It's smart business to stock according to your base customer.

The on-line business for Academy is getting better all the time. As their IT department expands so too will the on-line business and products available on-line. Internet sales were not Academy's initial business model. You are going to see more in the future. It's all good!

You guys are obviously in the minority. Tho I agree about the frog and the line. WTH were they doing with that frog? Talk about a piece of junk.

Academy has really changed over the years. I used to go to one in Houston, a little more then 20 yrs back, that had a worm bar. I loved that worm bar. I'd walk out of there like a kid in a candy store. Academy is just a shadow of it's former self.

Can't comment on all employees or their knowledge of the products but do want to thank an employee named Chris at the store in Tyler. Went to buy some of the Berkley power baits on sale then decided to get some casual shorts. Laid Iphone on rack while trying them on. Went to check out and forgot phone. After lunch discovered missing phone. Called the phone and Chris answered. He was wondering who left it. He said come to customer service. We fail to say thanks for honest people enough. Thanks Chris.

If fishing the Berkley tournament Academy has the best deal going on those baits.

Academy in Frisco is getting thin on inventory (especially the clearance powerbaits, which as pointed out, are "Free" with rebate (minus postage and paperwork costs of course).

I also miss Sportsman's Warehouse, loved that store, I think they pretty much failed massively at marketing though, if you didn't go in there just as a "hey, wonder what's in there", you might have had no idea how incredible it was, I saw the occassional circular but nothing that I'd have gone out of the way for until I actually went there.

I'm with ya'. Back in the day when I was a youngster and spending all of my on entry fees, Jimmy would let me buy most of my tackle on credit. Smitty, Helen, Dusty and Jimmy were the best. No place like it. Good memories...
