Last week I was bass fishing with a buddy down around the rocks at the inlet of 3 fingers cove. (at least I think that's the name) We saw 2 people up on the bank behind the trees. I thought it was odd, but didn't put too much thought into it. Then out of nowhere THEY SHOT AT US! They missed, and hit the water about 5 feet from me. I couldn't tell if it was a pellet gun or a subsonic 22. Needless to say I flipped SH!T, and immediately started yelling at them. They ran off, and we thought they were just kids. We heard their car start up and drive away, so they had to be at least 16. We never called the police, because by the time our addrenaline settled we figured all was safe, and we really couldnt do anything about it. I hate to be one of those crazy NRA type people, but with as much cr@p that happens around the metroplex (especially Hubbard) it may not be a bad idea to protect yourself.

Which brings up the question... Do I need to have a CHL to keep a pistol on my boat?

I know what you're thinking, and NO we didn't catch any Hybrids. We only caught 3 bass wink

What is a crazy NRA type"?

If you had had a gun with you, what would you have done? Shot back?

Duh, it never occurred to me that even on Texoma...etc it is a federal law, not a state law. It would require a federal puke to bust you.

Doubtful, but the fact is that I WAS shot at... Thank god it was only once. If I had continued to be fired upon it sure would be nice to known I could at least defend myself if I was pinned down.

I suppose a 10XD crankbait could do some damage if I was within throwing distance. In all seriousness, it was a VERY helpless feeling floating on a boat with only a graphite rod to defend myself.

.22 rf down loaded to sub-sonic velocity, below the sound barrier.

+ 1000000000

It's a helpless feeling to need it and not have it. I was there 1x before and I won't let it happen again.

I always carry, COE lake or not. I fish alone and wish to be able to protect myself against bad men or crazy pigs, just in case.
40 cal goes a long way toward making me feel secure.

Would I have shot back? I would have cranked up my motor and scrammed out of there. If wanted to protect myself, I would not carry a hand gun in my boat. Can't hit anything with a hand gun. A rifle is very accurate at long distances.

There was a case few years ago at Hubbard where fisherman was shot in upper chest from the banks, he described it as a .22. At lakepoint hospital it was determined to be a pellet gun. But it still penetrated his skin and had entrance wound similar to .22...... That was on rockwall side just north of animal hospital off hwy. 66 and 2 mile bridge...
