Whats yalls opinion on using braided line in clear water?

Is sucks even worse than using it in muddy water.

Works fine if your punching thick grass. Like to color 3 feet with marker.

i think two things.....one what pound test are you using...and two as stated above what technique are you using. flipping or pitching to grass you can get away with it....color it...i like brown. the other option i like is the fluorocarbon leader. especially if you're using a slower presentation like jig or TX rig or Carolina rig... I even do it on my crankbait set ups.

I use heavy braid from roughly may til december, in really clear water. Now my lakes are fairly heavy grass wise and I never throw any cranks or such. I think it would depend alot on what baits you are presenting. Ive had no issues with jigs, flutter spoons, big swimbaits. Using a blk colored sharpie on 2' to 3' helps also, I re apply daily. I strongly stay away from any leaders, except C-Rigs.

I use flouro in clear water!

I was planning on using it on some of my lighter spinning tackle, which is what I use for my drop shot and light jigs. Canyon Lake, the place I fish the most doesn't have hardly any grass but it has lots of deep drops offs and cliffs. I really like the idea of having the increased sensitive but I'm unsure about the visibility of the line.

I have said this for years. Line size affects lure action more than anything but I seriously do not think using a visible line in clear water like braid really matters. If that fish can see that line then he damn sure can see that hook which is a much larger diameter that is sticking out of the side of the bait. I choose line based on cover and lure action. I think the rest gets way over thought.

I'm with you on this Mark. I don't use braid as much as I use to but I have always maintained that the fish can see a big chunk of lead and a big hook a lot easier than they can the line. We fished braid for years before flouro and amazingly, we still caught fish.lol I have a friend that only uses braid and he catches his fair share of fish on Amistad and Ivey. Both of those are pretty clear lakes.

i fish table rock lake and i use the same florescent braid for daytime fishing that i use at night. i fished with a long time guide on table rock the other day, and he was giving me a lecture on why i needed to me using lighter line and floro for daytime fishing. needless to say at the end of the day, he had a different outlook about line. fishing from the back of the boat, the braid not only caught more bass, but all the bigger ones. both lines had the same jig tied on. before i started using braid, i always fished with 20lb. clear blue stren, even during the day. if invisible is such a big thing, how is it that the umbrella rig works??? how s it that bass do not shy away from the 6/0 hook you are using?? in my opinion, fishing the right depth at the right speed is more important.

I respectfully have to disagree. I have had numerous first hand experiences fishing with partners either using or not using a leader on braid. Unless the water looks like chocolate milk the person using the floro/mono leader always has more success. I'm not saying you can't catch fish in gin clear water on straight braid. I'm just saying you have to give yourself the best odds to catch fish, and I have seen the difference that using a leader can make. Especially when fishing heavily pressured bodies of water.

I should have specified that I use a leader when fishing a slow presentation, like a worm. Quickly flipping a jig around a lot of structure isn't as important, because half the time they hit it on the fall. (20lb stren probably is just as visible to the fish as braid) I'll fish moving baits with straight braid too, like spinnerbaits, frog, buzz baits, and alabama rigs. These are more reaction strikes and the fish isn't inspecting the lure and line before they eat the bait, they're simply attacking
