Fishing is one of the addictions - so the same question why people gamble @ Lasvegas or playing poker?

If the fishing addiction is too large and too much of an impact to you then seek medical attention & support!

Yeah, to the gods. That he is fallible. That perfection is unobtainable. And now the weight begins shifting back to the left pulled by the powers inside the earth, it's alive, this swing! A living sculpture and down through contact, always down, striking the ball crisply, with character. A tuning fork goes off in your loins. Such a pure feeling is the well-struck golf shot. And then the follow through to finish. Always on line. The reverse C of the Golden Bear! The steel workers' power and brawn of Carl Sandburg's Arnold Palmer! - Roy McAvoy

Because this very well could have been a quote about fishing. Set the hook and feel the tuning fork go off!

You guys have way to many poems, metaphors, and religious experiences. I just like to fish. I feel no closer to god, I feel no connection with nature, and I don't care if my wife goes or doesn't. I just like to compete and fishing is a good way to do it since I'm too beat up for sports anymore.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.
John Buchan

If you watch the 2004 Bassmaster's Classic, where Takahiro is in 10th place and only has 2 fish with 5 minutes before he has to leave, he picks up a crankbait and catches three big ones on 3 casts, that is why bass fishing is addictive. One small, last minute change made his career. The whole time he was saying; "I knew it."

Nothing is cooler than when you figure out the fish! Even if it is only for a few minutes.

It's waking up early, the fresh smell of a new day, finding your favorite fishing hole just as the sun rises. Seeing God's beautiful canvas, the stillness and sounds of nature, with fish as they splash around as they eat their morning breakfast. Then taking out your favorite bait, casting, the sounds as the bait flies through the air (fzzshh) then lands in the water (spoosh). Slowly reeling in anticipating the strike, then all of the sudden Bam!, game on, heart pounding to see your catch, fighting to keep it on line as you see the beauty as it jumps and shakes as it comes to the top of the water. Yes, I got her, in the boat, she is a beauty. Unhook her, catch my breath, and gently release the old gal, we will meet again another day.

Fishing, hunting, golf....it's better than working that's why!

Although you better work and make some money....cause it's an expensive habit!

You can avoid having ulcers by adapting to the situation: If you fall in the mud puddle, check your pockets for fish. ~Unknown

Open your eyes & look within, are you satisfied with the life youre living.

No matter how good or bad you have it, wake up each day thankful for your life. Someone somewhere else is desperately fighting for theirs.

Bass Fishing is so addictive because it leaves no room to think about existing problems in your life. You focus on the task at hand not the looming perceived problems in your mind. But, the current situation which is "How can I catch fish now"

It is an escape.

I think for everyone it's a bit different,

some do it to constantly try and out do themselves as to how big or how many they can catch, they love the rush of settin the hook and reelin in a toad, and that's great!

others, and i fall in to this category, do it for the fishing itself and not the fish caught. I personally go fishing most of the time knowing I probably won't catch much if anything at all, but the act of fishing, being out there by yourself preforming one of the purest acts that man has done since the beginning of time, trying to fool nature, is addicting all in itself. The shore with my butt planted in a lawn chair and a pole in my hand is where I can go and make life decisions, talk to God, or if I'm with others build better relationships.

For me it's not about the fish but fishing itself.
