I just got out to use a Vendetta rod I received for Christmas (wife was pregnant and we moved so I'm just getting to fish again smile ). Unfortunately, it broke on my second hookset. It still had the Academy tags but since it was a gift, I have no receipt.

Academy said they would do an exchange on it, but when I got back up to the counter they offered me 1 cent since I didn't have a receipt (I told them this when I walked in). Abu said they would warranty it, but I need a receipt.

Anyone have any experience with this situation? Not a super expensive rod, but it would be nice not to throw the money away.

The same thing happened to a Vendetta I purcahsed from Academy and could not find the receipt. I sent a detailed email of the situation along with pictures that showed the rod model information as well as the broken piece to Abu Garcia.

I received a reply from Teri Moyer at tamoyer@purefishing.com, and after a series of correspondence they agreed to a one time warranty replacement.

My email is was as follows:

To whom it may concern

I purchased a 69 MH Vendetta rod from Academy a few months back and am now in need of a rod replacement that Academy will not cover. The third eye from bottom of rod grip broke off this past weekend while fishing with a jig head. Not sure how it happened, as I was simply pitching docks no more than 20 away. I was asked to email you guys with pictures that show the rod model information as well as the broken eye. Please see attached for supporting pictures.

It says on their web site they have a 3 year warranty on all V series rods. If I were you I would go to their web site and try and contact service there. jmo

I had an issue antoher time with a Veritas that snapped. Abu Garcia wouldn't warranty without receipt, so the next time I was at Bass Pro (not where I bought it originally) I asked a customer service rep if they had any recommendations for me to address the issue and they told me they would replace it if I were to purchase an extended warranty on a new Veritas in the same model. Cost about $18.00 for 2 year warranty and walked out with replacement rod.

When Academy clearances out their product....and you try to return whatever SKU they had on clearance, whether or not you paid full price, the system shows that SKU at the last known price for returns. Great deal for someone who finds a rod or reel for one cent, but if you don't have the original reciept....you get the one cent refund....

Better to just get with Abu on it and good luck!

there was a point in time academy would not give you trouble however a while back they got new owners and alot of stuff changed

Buy a new one and then return the broken one with the receipt from the new one. I had the same thing happen. Academy by me didn't have anymore Vendettas and tried to give me $9.99. Went to a newly opened Academy bought a new one and then returned the broken one with the receipt from the new one.
