Lots of good points made on this thread. I have had several bass boats and after owning a kayak I won't go back. I even entertained the thought of getting a shallow water Hells Bay Skiff after moving to Houston but like folks already stated...maintenance, gas, towing wear on your truck, and the ever lasting fear on the "BEEEEEP" from an outboard going into limp mode are all just some of the reason I won't own another bass boat. I also don't miss the sore backs from a day of standing 8 hours with one foot on the trolling motor (even with a recessed pedal). I have to second the opinion that you won't find a friendlier group of folks willing to help out with advice and even a hand when you need it. The kayak helped me get in shape, and so much more in tune with my surroundings. I always felt my bass boats gave me this false sense of security. With my kayak I am always alert and conscious about everything around me. And at the risk of sounding funny, it helps me get closer to mother nature and what she has to offer. I am on my 2nd yak and will be upgrading to. Hobie Mirage Drive once I sell mine. Get one. You'll be addicted. And take the guys up on their offers to test 'em out. Good luck!

Many Big Bass Boat owners have gone from their larger boat to a Twin Troller X10. I talk to them all the time.
You actually gain in fishing enjoyment (there are many things you can do in a TTX10 you can't do in a big bass boat) but lose the high cost of ownership.
Do I market the TTX10? Yes, but the stories from owners speak for themselves.
Unless you need to carry it down to the water, or want to put it on the roof of your car, seriously consider the Twin Troller instead of a kayak.
Also, for what it's worth. I talked to a guy the other day who said be careful with the Hobie angler. It has a shallow draft unless you need to pedal somewhere. Those blades go into the water quite a bit. With the TTX10 there is nothing under the boat and operates in 6-8 inches of water. And, you can take a TTX10 straight into tall grass and lily pads. Very difficult, if not impossible in a kayak.
Don't get me wrong, kayaks are great, but make sure you know what you are wanting to do and consider all options.

The Troller is a cool little boat and has it's place.......as does a bass boat.......as does a kayak.......as does a tube. However, I'm still holding judgment on the pumpkin boat.

I've had just power boats and I've had just kayaks. Currently, I have both and that's the way to go IMHO. For friends /family I break out the PB. Just solo is the kayak. Sometimes it's both, use the PB as a mothership to the kayak or kayak fishing in the morning and the ease of PB fishing in the afternoon. If its paid for and you got the space, I'd hang onto it and get a good, light weight, SOT, paddle kayak. I still have my bass boat, and I'm not selling it. I use my kayak more than the boat, but I still use the boat. Sometimes I just want to go out and skate across the water like a flat rock.

I currently own both. I love my bass boat and love to fish out of it because of the amount of water I can cover. Yes it is expensive but I am able to handle the expense at this time. I bought a kayak about a month ago and really enjoy if for what I need it for. I use it to fish ponds and if I want to get on the water for just a couple of hours I will us my kayak at a local lake. If I ever get in a bind, I won't have any problems giving up the bass boat and just using the kayak. And yes, the kayak fisherman are so much more helpful and usually just all around good dudes.
