Just wanted to give a little report on these two spots. These are the two lakes on the northeast side of Jacksboro. Had been wanting to fish them since someone posted about them earlier this summer. Anyhow, got there at dawn last Monday and put in at the ramp by the ball fields on the lower lake (Lost Creek Reservoir) which is referred to as the older lake according to a park officer I spoke to. This is more like a wide river. It's all very rocky, kind of quary-like steep banks. Typical stained colored old water. Just started fishing the east bank directly across and worked my way north to the damn. Probably caught about 10 or 12, couple of 2 lbs'ers, one maybe 3+ that broke my line when I stupidly un-lipped him to reach for my phone to take a picture. Anyhow, the lure of choice was pitching that Zoom Trick worm in red bug color wacky style. That darn little piece of plastic in that color is about the best go-to bait I use. Got tons of bites and all the fish I caught was off this rig. I just worked the rocky bank and vegetation and it was pretty easy to spot a good potential holding place - a steeper bank and some kind of vegetation jutting out. In the corner by the damn are the biggest bolders and steepest banks on the east side and that held the biggest bass (caught 3 right there). Saw a big school of sandies surface in the middle of the lake. Thunderstorms started to brew so headed in for a bite of lunch at Dairy Land (best place to eat in Jacksboro!). Then went to try the north lake between thunder storms. That is a completely different body of water. Torquois water and timber every where. It looks better than the lower lake structure wise but I couldn't buy a bite. Was real windy so didn't give it much of an effort. It's really low too although still 30 ft deep in the channel at the damn. Anyhow, looking forward to going back there. And yes had to give the right away to a big snake swimming behind me! Anyone who'd like to hit that sometime let me know. It's lots of fun and a pretty area.

Was only trying to take that one picture of that biggest bass but he got camera shy and broke my line when I let go of his lip to reach for my phone. I will do better next time!

Thanks for the update Ben. I have been wanting to fish those lakes.

FYI Dairyland is great but there are other very good places to eat in Jacksboro. Just to name a few. Herd Burger (one of the most unique burgers I have ever had), Village Kitchen for great breakfasts, Roma Pizza, good pizza and open late, and the Green Frog.

The ramp on the old lake is usable. In fact couple of guys in a bass boat put in there just before me. They seemed to be just trolling around for those sandies all morning. They did catch some though. The water is so low on the North (clear) Lake side that the old road (old 59 Hwy) is out of the water so just drove down on it to put it. Yep Mike, you are correct, there are some other good places to eat there - the Green Frog is darn good too and I see Herd Burger every time I go through there and just never have stopped in there. We use to be on a deer lease over there and we never missed a chance to hit Dairy Land. They use to be closed on Mondays - but were open this last Monday, maybe once the hunting seasons start they start opening on Mondays. We all should do a trip over there - could hit Bryson as well. And while we're sampling the three lakes we'll sample all the restaurants! How's that! The weather is starting to look real appealing!!

Thanks for the report. Always meant to try Lost Creek. There's a few other nice little lakes out that way... And yes, Dairyland is good stuff but a Herd burger is not to be missed IMO...

+1 for Herd Burger in Jacksboro... it's 20 minutes from my deer lease and a frequent lunchtime destination. Dairyland is the top choice when my wife is with me, followed by the Green Frog. When I'm in a hurry, there's Sonic, Dairy Queen and Chicken-E (this weekend's winner) on the north end of town.

I usually go to my lease via Bridgeport, so yesterday (Saturday) was the first time in a while I've been by Jacksboro Lake. I was surprised at how low it is. I didn't realize how long the lower lake is until I looked at it on Google Maps tonight; I'll have to give it try soon!
