Why is fishing, especially Bass fishing, so addictive? I have seen marriages broke up, bills not payed, yards uncut, excuses for not going to work, etc. Why, Why. Just to catch a little green fish and most of the time we don't keep them!!!!!

we hate it that fish are smarter than us so we have to teach them a lesson...

Because of the possibility of the unknown.

There is a fishing quote that says something to the effect of the reason fishermen are obsessed is "because it's your imagination at the other end of your line", or something to that effect.

That was a poor explanation, but what I was simply trying to say it, you fish because every day you never know what will happen. That and because man loves a 1 on 1 battle, even if its with a 3lb fish.

Variable interval reinforcement
Similar to playing the lottery or a machine in Vegas.

The probability of catching a big bass is constant; but, the number of casts to catch one is variable.

I hope i never find the answer to that question

Sometimes I think I am sick. I start thinking about my next time out before I get off the water. Is there any cure.

No cure. Once you set the hook you're done. Worse than any drug in its addictiveness! (Is that a real word? O well)

I was listening to the BassEdge podcast last week, and their guest Mark Zona summed it up for me:

"[Fishing is] a giant unsolvable puzzle that nobody can ever master� And that's what keeps us all going and doing this."

Go figure.....IT IS WHAT IT IS!

It's the endorphin rush during the hookset or fight with a big fish. Tourneys just add to that.

I have it bad. I'll clean, cover and put the boat up because it'll be a week or so before I'm planning on going again then then within a few hours I've figured out a way to get away the next day so I drag it all out after I just put it all up!

My wife laughs at me. I tell her to [censored] off.
