Really? Poisons the water and estrogen mimicry? Keep talking like that and we'll all be throwing soy based bioplastics... Just like steel shot.

Granted, I hate to see them thrown in the water just as bad as the next guy but come on.

Speaking from experience...if you are considering re-melting baits make sure of two things. 1) The baits are completely dry if they're not you're going to have an issue. 2) I highly recommend that if you used a scent on the baits you might want to reconsider re-melting, most but not all scents are oil based but have additives that may not be.
In all my years of pouring I had a first this Summer, a drop of sweat in 350 degree plastic. I had blisters on my cheeks, I was wearing glasses or I might've lost an eye....Be Careful

I try and keep all of mine and turn them into crappie lures. I can make 3-4 baits out of a trick worm depending on how many times I bite off the head.

Yes really, estrogen mimickers in some plastics is scientific fact. Look it up for yourself. If it leaches into food that is just stored in the containers, imagine what it could do to fish that actually eat the plastic. There was a scientific study about the effects on fish, and it did cause gender confusion. Again, look it up.

Sure, there are bigger pollutants harming the waters, I'm just trying to help people be aware of the dangers in some plastics at the same time.

Also, soy is just as bad, if not worse. Especially if its GMO soy. Again, you can look up the dangers of GMOs too.

Exactly. One might equate this with why our young men these days don't exactly act like men.

Here we go on the GMOs.

While what you say is true, I was thinking more of environmental contamination and the lowest observed effects level based off of contaminant leaching into the water from plastic worms. I suppose it would have a greater effect in the fishes stomach.

Everything you ever wanted to know about BPA contamination in water: http://www.opc.ca.gov/webmaster/ftp/proj...20A%20Final.pdf

BLUF: it's worse in saltwater, plants break it down, and the primary means of contamination are from point source contributors.

At any rate, since I have worked in the ag chemical industry and strongly believe in GMO production, I will excuse myself from the off-topic communications that are about to ensue.

Feel free to debate via PM if you like, but be warned: I'm working towards an M.S. in environmental science.

I learned my lesson probably 5 years ago at Fork when I caught 4 fish in a row with red lizards in their mouth. Used baits go in the livewell...

Throw them in a corner of the boat then put them in an empty can/bottle at the end of the day.

Same goes for used condoms. I have caught more of those than I care to admit. Nasty bums.

i too put mine on the injured reserve...lol... but i hate seeing trot line jugs that hve been in the water so long its unreal... i was fishing one day when a jug swam by me... kind of odd i thought.. jug had obviously been in the water awhile..pulled it up and there was a blue cat that had been on the jug so long that i guess the line cut him and it healed into the skin.. that was my guess.. either that or he grew into it like a tree and a fence post.. cut it off and released him.. its like guys put these out and forget them and not all mark them although its the law correct?
