I am wanting to get some advice before I purchase one of these reels. Abu Garcia Revo STX and Lew's Tournament Pro. They both have 6:4 gear ratios and are close in price. I will use it to throw umbrella rigs and swimbaits mainly. Anyone use either reel and can give some insight, please?

Abu also has the winch reel. Its a 5.4:1 gear ratio. I have one. I like it for the umbrella rig and deep divers.

The Daiwa Laguna is s really good reel and it is only $60. Abu has some reels in the $65 range that are also very good. Regards, Bart

I have 5 revo premiers, excellent reels. never used a lews so can't compare but I do recommend the revo. also have a winch 5:1 and use it for cranks and large baits alot, very smooth reels.

I like the Lew's Super Duty for A-rigs or other heavy baits.

Lews TP is lighter than the STX (at least the gen 2, I've not looked at the gen 3's since I switched to lews). Both make excellent reels but Lew's fits my hands better. I've got 6-8 of the TP's ranging from 5.4 to 7:1 and I love them. Only reel I buy anymore.

The only thing I like better about my gen 3 stx's over my tourney pro's is the Eva grips.

Everything else about my tourney pro's I like better.

They are both good reels but I overall prefer the tourney pro. Look them over both really good.

Some like each one better for different reasons you should be happy with either.

You might want to hold one of the Abu Gen 3's as well while mounted on a display rod, like at Cabela's/BPS. The Gen 3 has a very large gearbox where it drops down next to the rod, it will normally protrude below the rod. Depending on how you hold the rod your fingers will hit it, gets mildly annoying. With that being said they are good reels, but I really like the Lews TP's. They are smooth as glass and seem to have a higher grade of bearings than several other reels, it feels like they come with ABEC5 bearings from the factory. They can be a bit finicky to set up, but once dialed in they are golden.

I've had no issues with my STX! It's a great reel.

I have 5 Lews in all ratios. Love em. Until I am unhappy with these I will buy only Lews.

I had a Stx last year and took it back because it stopped reeling smoothly. Was good at first. Traded for Curado which I think is much better
