I think...in most cases that silence is Golden! You definitely did the right thing with the young one's on board.. You can't fix stupid ... However there is a polite way as stated in a post above! There's people that are newbies and need a little assistance on when to stay back/ slow down/ turn off big motor etc. Heck I was called out before (by you know who on RH) by using my trolling motor! eek I suppose that fish at times can and do spook with the slightest of noise... Other than dead sticking season grin
All in all whether your on the highways or the lake ways be very careful on who you yell at. It just could get a whole lot worse in a hurry for ya! Be safe out there.....

People get pretty stupid on LL. one problem I see is that a lot
Of
My favorite spots just happen to be in the party boat path to and from
Party cove. For example....Vaughn's, twin trees, etc. if you don't want to battle wake then the gravel pits are fairly safe.

They might be stupid or they just dont know, When I first started fishing out of a boat, I was on Texoma and was chasing the stripers when a school would come up I ran right into the middle of them, during one of my runs into the fish one of the lake guides asked me how long I had been fishing for striper and I told him not very long out of a boat. He then told me that if I would stop short and idle close to the school and not into the school that they would stay up longer and everybody could keep fishing longer and I thanked him for his information. I just did not know, now I do and he was not rude or ugly obout informing that I was causing the schools to disperse quicker.

That's the perfect way to handle the situation IMO. It will just keep happening if you don't say anything to them. Doing it politely is the key.

No, they're just stupid. Real stupid.

I've only been fishing out of a boat for 6 months. (mainly Texoma now)

Something etiquette items are opinion in my mind, but generally speaking a little common sense goes a LONG way. Take boater's ed, take other people who know what's going along and take constructive criticism.

I've seen people disagree, but the other week I heard one guide cussing a boater/fisherman up and down for not really doing anything wrong (motoring through an area like a 100 other people do). I don't know the company name, but I remember generally what his boat looks like and I sort of remember him. No way in hell I'd ever give him my business.

With that said, I think if he used tact to begin with the other boater might have been more open to doing what he wanted. He basically started it off poorly.

Anyway, I have a philosophy that you can't complain if you don't say something/do something to fix the situation. However, with kiddos around - I also break my own rules if there is even a small chance of it escalating.

For some reason people tend to be especially sensitive when in a boat on the water. I have found that if you approach people in a calm way with a smile they tend to let down their guard a little. Being new to the area myself, I actually appreciate people giving me advice when they are nice about it. Harsh words tend to bring out the worst in everyone.

I would much rather have someone correct me nicely than to say nothing and feel resentment toward me in the future.

Unfortunately there's a lot of that on Lewisville. But like the saying goes....you deserve what you tolerate. I have had run ins just like this and try the polite approach at first. the very few times it has turned bad(and i have had my kids in the boat before when this happened) i just write down there TX #'s, then when i get home, i get there home address. smile
