I use a 3/8 mesh for theadfin shad in summer and a 1/2 or 5/8 for big gizzards in the winter. A 3 to 4 inch thread will swim out of a 1/2 inch net!

Okay, I really want 1 of the coastal led spreader lights. Seems like a good size, but is claimed to be really bright. Does anyone use this for shining in the water and how does it work for you? Any feedback on this one is appreciated. If the light is bright, it'll be the perfect solution for me. http://www.coastalnightlights.com/styles-LEDspreaders.html

They have great reviews but I only see examples of it lighting up the inside of a boat. Like to see them shining on water, because they are small which sometimes means not that bright. The guy Chris is real good at answering questions...etc. Just have not heard direct feedback in regards to them being used to light the water for bait.

I have two coastal nite light spreader lights on my t-top. They are great for spreader lights because they really light up a big area but I don't think they will work for shad light. They might work if you set them really close to the water. I have 2 taco led spot lights mounted on my t-top that work well. I also have 3 of the coastal night light DS underwater lights (green)and they attract shad pretty good but they are mounted on the transom and its tough to throw a net back there. I use 1/4,3/8,and 5/8 mesh nets depending on what size bait I am after. The 1/4 inch mesh is great this time of year so you don't end up with a bunch of baits gilled in you net. Many 8 foot nets measure out legal to throw in Texas and the bigger the better when throwing on lights.

Thank you CSB for the feedback, I was about the pull the trigger on it. The TACO lights are a little more affordable anyway, so I'll check them out for sure! Underwater lights would be ideal, but it's a pontoon boat so I'm limited in that regard. Thank you for helping.
