Taking my son to Galveston on Fri. Haven't really ever fished for the bull reds down there but I do have all the gear capable of pier or surf fishing. Any advice is appreciated. Also if you know of a good surf spot to put out some long rods and swim that would be awesome. Feel free to pm me if you would like to keep it private.

Spent the morning on 61st street pier and wore the bulls out! Actually, they wore me out. Caught and released roughly 20 over 30 inches, biggest we measured was 38 if I remember right. I heard they were doing well at 91st street pier as well. I've only fished from the beach at crystal beach and that was last year or the year before. They wanted cut mullet today. Didnt get anything on shad.
Good luck, I hope y'all get in to them like we did today. Several times I had to crank the drag all the way down on the 6500's just to make progress on them.

Cliff we went this past weekend to freeport, caught one nice bull at the jetties on live piggy perch.
I used my catfish gear and it worked fine.
