Its gonna take some fishermen to start doing this, to make it happen. Secure themselves, and catch the thieves. Course no one wants to help or pay for this type of security stuff. So it will just keep going.

So it will just keep going. Here is your answer ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The ones that are effected the most by a problem are usually the ones to be the quickest to fix it. Sadly, one of us will catch one of these worthless guys one night, put a little lead poison in him and then spend the next 3 years of our life defending ourselves in court. Look at the Zimmerman case.

All I know is if I went to check in to a hotel, and the proprietors told me "listen, there's been a bunch of larceny going on and our customers are the victims. But we say its your problem. If you don't hide your belongings, they might be stolen..once again not our problem..its yours".. I would tell them to go sit on a treble hook. Just me though.

In principal you are putting your property at the mercy of the thieves every time you check in. Most Facilities have a sign reading "Not responsible for items lost or stolen" on their premises. An establishments insurance company would not have it any other way. Either you take responsibility for your equipment or its not protected, simple as that.

Several months ago the Wood County Sheriff asked folks to help them buy a water safety boat so that they could step up on-the-water patrols. How many of you contributed?
If the Sheriff asked for donations so he could hire more deputies to patrol Lake Fork, how many of you would donate?
Bottom line is, quit depending on someone else to protect your stuff. It isn't going to happen in the city, in the country or on the lake. Take responsibility for yourselves and your belongings. No one else is going to.
One other thing, if a TD or a motel paid for increased security and someone still got their things stolen, whose fault is it then?
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

I don't know. Just seems backwards to me to treat customers/ anglers like all the hotel cares about is the money they get for loaning a bed for the night. Comfort of stay, safety of customers etc..dont matter? What happens when one of the crackheads gets spooked and puts a bullet in a guy coming out to get a map from his truck. Its his fault for not taking his map in the room before the street lights come on? Where is the line drawn?
wouldn't it be just as applicable to the hotel owners to take responsibility for their property? If I was told if I stay at a certain hotel, there's a chance a crime will be committed on myself/ my family..i wouldn't stay there. Just me though.

I'll be the first to say I didn't donate for a sheriff boat, nor would I donate for extra sheriff personnel. That is up to the responsibility of Wood County tax payers. I would bet you a donut that you or I either one could go sit down and take a look at their annual budget and move a little money over to their patrol division. I enjoy going to Lake Fork, but I don't think it's my responsibility to pay for it. I, as well as other anglers, are already paying my dues there by spending my money on tackle, fuel, food, etc. I spend my tax money in Walker County where I also have a voice.
Mike, you have a really good point in the situation you laid out. I have no answer other than what has already been mentioned in stiffer penalties for criminals.

Guys, Going to make this short and clear. The reason nothing is done with all the breakins around the lake is simple. There is a guy who lives in Emory. His mother works in the Sheriff's Department in town there. He and a few buddies of his have a free reign around the lake. Everyone in town knows who steals thousands of dollars of stuff and they sell it there in Rains County. This has been reported times over. Every time his mother keeps him out of trouble and he keeps doing business as usual. You hear very little out of it because if someone in town reports it, then things happen to their place or property. They even have a boat they use to hit boathouses and such and then bring stolen items back and sell them there in the county. To those in Rains County it is common knowledge.
Jeremiah 7:28 KJV
But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the Lord their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
Galatians 4 : 16
Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

You're right. Cops might as well just quite since we haven't figured out how to stop thievery yet.... Why have cops if all we do is take reports. You have to remember everything is real easy to talk about. Catching thieves is a lot easier said than done.

Full scale corruption/extortion are pretty serious accusations.

Never said the sheriff was going to burn anything. If you have lived there, first, I am sorry, second, it happens, again, most everyone there knows. Anyway, just saying not much going to be done about it. So don't look for any assistance from the Rains County side.
