Met up with Henry this morning at Tira and all I can say, we desperately need RAIN! It was a chore dragging our yaks out to deeper water.

Also, was a pleasure meeting fellow TFFer, Garret whom just move to Sulphur Springs from PA 3 weeks ago. Great fishing with you.

Morning was a little slow but we each manage to land one hybrid at the cove. Went to a few other places but they weren't there. We split up, Henry went to the dam area while I went to the horseshoe hump and the island.

Manage to pick up 2 sandies and found a huge school of sandies at the island. By the time I caught 5 sandies, Henry text me saying the hybrids are schooling by the dam.

I was roughly 1 mile away and haul butt towards him. All I can say, a sand color yak is hard to spot!

By the time I got there, Henry already caught 7-8 hybrids. The hybrids would school every 5-15 minutes for a good 90 minutes. Finally tally for Henry was 18-20 hybrids!! laugh Awesome job, and thanks for texting me.

I didn't caught as much but could had easier double my catch if I had not took my time to take pics of my catch.

Total damage for the day was donating a ram mount to Cooper lake and a hybrid broke off one of my lure.

All I can say, yet another awesome day at COOPER!

It was a great day! I've caught a ton of striper at Texoma, but only one hybrid before yesterday. Man, those things hit hard!

It was kayak running and gunning after those blow-ups! Pretty funny, but well worth it. I didn't take many pictures, but here's a few. All the fish were big, probably plus or minus an inch or two from the one on the board below. The schooling started around 11:45 and I texted Lee shortly thereafter. He got there around 12:30 or so and it was pretty great for a good long while. I was afraid it would be over by the time he got there. That was a pretty long run he made to get there!

Schooling was in 18-24 ft of water. Didn't seem to matter if there was structure or not.

Edit- Baits were shad blades (Humdinger) and 4" and 6" sassy shad on 1 oz heads (Moes). Color didn't seem to matter as long as it was chartruse!

Good job guy, and that lake was perfect for fishing. I didn't see anyone else on the lake either. do they have the lake closed to boaters?

There is not an actual closing of the lake or even the ramps from what I have seen.....from my information and questioning, the rangers at Coop only "advise" as to ramp and water conditions. I'm a bit surprised the Doc Creek ramp was still in use when it was several weeks back.....most parks will physically close the ramp because when the water gets low enough, boaters tend to create big holes and respective degradation of the base of the ramps when they attempt to power onto their trailers.....this was happening with the few boats we saw trying to load back in Aug. The Coop rangers seem to take a different approach from normal (not knocking them by any means)....."we warn you and you are left up to your own decision to launch". Of course, at some point in time (such as now), it becomes obvious you can't launch any boat of size. Not sure if you saw pics I posted of the South Sulfur launches.....eventually w/o rain, the Tira and Doc Creek ramps will look like this:

Bottom line is the lake is restricted only by what you can physically get to the water. The doc creek personnel had told me a month back that we could launch anywhere in the park we could get to the water......of course, that doesn't mean driving in non-designated areas. The sulphur unit said we could lanuch from our shelter if we wanted.....it actually may not have been too bad of a haul to the water - that might end up being as easy as using the dried up ramps.

Lee and Henry - great job. smile

Lee, that bloody fish looks like the big one of the day.......any idea on length/weight?

Henry, question on the chartruese comment......is that just what you were using or did you actually try other colors and find they would not bite anything but chart?

Was there any other boats besides yaks? I sure miss Cooper.
