Is there a reliable way to tell between flouro & mono?

I have 2 reels and I know 1 has each on it, having a hard time distinguishing.

Cut off a piece, mono floats, fluoro sinks.
Or try to stretch it.

My all around experiences with mono are all crappy. The only thing I use it for is top water. For everything else I use fluro because it sinks and you can detect bite on it better. When I use mono, I had problems with break offs on hook sets, every time I hit some type of structure when hooked up the line would break, and the worst of all the castability was horrible. Since I've switched to fluro, I have no problems but I would recommend NOT to buy the cheap stuff because it has too much memory.

+1 on the use of Mono. However I do use it still on my C-rig. I like for my bait to float up.

I am not buying the cheap fluorocarbon but it seems like once you get a birds nest you can count on the line breaking on the spool.

I prefer mono over fluoro for the super fluke type baits. Fluoro seems to drag them down (of course, sometimes you may want that).
