From my crank battery, I run a HDS 8 and LS1 on my console and it powers off whenever I start the big motor. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the battery, the motor cranks just fine and I keep it on a battery tender when the boat is out of the water.

Today, I used my aft livewell and whenever the areator turned on, the HDS would lose power.

Any ideas on what could be causing this drop in power to the HDS 8?

Yes it's a very common problem. You will need to rewire the graph and take it straight to the battery (don't forget the fuse). These graphs take alot of power and your current wires aren't healthy enough to supply the full current needed. I had to rewire mine for the same reason and it hasn't cut off since.

That could be the problem, because I did not wire it direct, I just spliced into another existing wire. I will give it a try.

thanks

That may be the problem but it could also be the battery. I had a 1000 cca battery that was just a tad over a year old and my hds units would shut down. I replaced it with a sears die hard agm 1150 cca and it fixed the problem.

Most likely battery...however good idea to rewire. I run two HDS-12's one on console with LSS-1 and one on bow with HDI. I ran the bow unit directly to cranking battery. I have no problems with either resetting.
The HDS units do require lots of power.....
