Another problem with ethanol is that it deteriorates the hoses, so the engine itself is not the only thing in jeopardy. So some type of additive has become a "MUST" to protect the whole system.

Good point I had my drained after my 16 week stay in the VA hospital, it's been 4 years since I've used my Ranger it has 10hours on it but it's paid for now my buddies old Gator runs fine on the local gas, he doesn't add anything we did replace the fuel hoses

I have a 2001 merc 225efi bought new. Never put a single drop af any additive in it. Sometimes it sits for 2 or 3 months with gas in the tank. Never missed a beat.

Reminds me of a true conversation I had with a friend of mine several years ago when the experts were talking about how cholesterol in eggs was bad for your health. My buddy said his grandpa ate eggs three meals a day for most of his life and was strong as a horse. "Dude, your grandpa died of a heart attack at age 54."

Its going to really suck when they approve 15% ethanol! We don't even have rated UL listed petroleum equipment that can handle 15%, non the less the cost of stainless steel nozzles, hoses, filters, etc. Its a mess to say the least!

I should post some pictures of how ethanol and low sulfur diesel react to underground storage tanks, Sub Pump motors and everything else it touches before it goes in your truck/ boat! It amazes me that the manufactured tanks, hoses and other stuff in boats can handle it! Diesel exhaust fluid is even worse!

I know the loggers hate the ethanol for what it does to their chain saws. I would assume other small engine repairs are really due to the effects of ethanol. It's a relatively inexpensive additive to help prevent problems. Lot's of "preventive" solutions do not appear to be working because there are no problems. Kinda like medicine, "I don't need my blood pressure pills cause my blood pressure is ok!" But quit taking your meds and see what will EVENTUALLY happen.
