The ethanol can be, especially on older rigs. Mine's an 04 and the owners manual says 10% is OK I've never had any issues......yet. I think purchasing from a major supplier with a high volume of customers helps ensure good fresher quality of fuel. Plus I usually don't let it set in the boat more than 30 days. I have let it set before a couple times for as long as 6 weeks but I still haven't had any issues. Using an additive is a good idea, cheap insurance.

Ok, you raise an interesting point or question on my part. My motor and rig are 2004 as well BUT, my power plant is only 90HP, so not a high speed/high compression engine. I was advised and have started adding in Sea Foam/Ethanol remover in addition to the marine motor oil. Do ya'll add these products (no matter the brand as I'm not trying to promote any one product) to your fuel tanks? The ethanol can be, especially on older rigs. I have been using Sta bil marine without a problem.I just sold a boat with a 95 merc 150 that sat up for 18 months without being started.I was kinda worried when we got it to the lake to try it out but it fired right up and ran great til we left about 45 minutes later.

If you ca`nt attend theirs a BioBor commercial on You Tube. The biggest problem right now with ethanol is you have a good chance of getting a 25 to 35% load of it in your fuel and nothing will help. Test your fuel for ethanol percent before putting it in your boat. It does`nt take but a minuet or two.

How do you test it? I try not to buy more than a haft tank (about 20gal) so it will be fresh. I get my gas at wal mart.

How do you test it? I try not to buy more than a haft tank (about 20gal) so it will be fresh. I get my gas at wal mart. You can buy a marked tester at a parts store, or just use a clear vial and squirt some in it and the ethanol will seperate and be on the bottom. You then can guess if the seperated ethanol is 10% of the volume or 50% etc.

I have a mercury 60hp four stroke and just started runnin premium fuel on top of the ethanol marine treatment from sta-bil instead if just the regular stuff I've always used. Just this last trip out with all my normal gear another person and a full tank of fuel I gained 2-3 mph and engine sounds totally different.
