I'll be travelling down I-40 to Albuquerque then back again. Planning on camping the whole way. How's the tent camping at Palo Duro? Also, any suggestions on places between there and Albuquerque? Don't mind if it's 30 min or so off the interstate, as long as it's not too crowded. I'll be going the first weekend in October.

Thanks!

It's been a few years since we were in Palo Duro State Park, but the camping is very good. Just don't get caught there when rains are very heavy. It's a canyon and the water rises really fast, don't ask how I know. Don't let that stop you though, just check the weather it's really a very scenic park with a rich history.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

+1

Camped there for three nights in February--
Beautiful scenery, wild turkey and deer came through the campsites.
DO heed his warning about the rain though.

It is a nice place to camp, especially at that time of the year. Some beautiful native plants, etc. in the park to see. Is like a miniature Grand Canyon.

Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to it. I usually camp st Black Mesa in Sept-Oct but I wanna give this a try. I know it'll be more populated than Black Mesa but the mesa so far out of my way.

I think it's right about where Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado come together. It looks like a pretty cool place.

It's very cool. Very isolated. Everytime I've camped there I've never seen more than 2-3 vehicles in a day.

At Palo Duro, try to make plans on going back when you can watch the play.."Texas" in Palo Duro. I grew up in the Panhandle (Pampa). Saw "Texas" will never forget it.
