Until you get one on you .

I picked up a watering can one day and dunked it the rain barrel . As I was walking towards a planter I thought to myself : " there's probably a spider in there " . I should have listened .

I felt something on my hand and looked down to see a Widow the size of one of those pet hermit crabs crawling up my arm with death in her eyes . eeks

I never realized that I had Kung-fu skills until that day . azn

Looks like you might be right Tracker. The hourglass marking was more orange. I looked it up but didn't find that they were prevalent in Texas. Now I'm intrigued.

Definitely either a black/brown widow! Widow webs (AKA cobb-webs) are also usually very sporatic and thick and have no definde shape while most other spiders have a orb shaped web that is not as thick and sticky and almost always have a circular shape. Stay away from the Cobb-webs!!

Ive noticed where there is one black widow there are usually many many more hanging around. I would suggest getting a strong pesticide and spraying around your house really well. If you have any pets maybe keep them in for a day or two after you spray to keep them from ingesting any dead insects.

Spectracide makes a product called Triazicide that works great for all kinds of bugs. I have a wood frame house and spray around all my doors, windows and everything below 2 around the exterior of my house once a month (overkill, but I dont like bugs in my house). I like this product because it does not stain or peal the paint like some products will.

Still have to go with black widow. As mentioned at the top of the thread, immature black widows are not black. Here are a couple of pictures of immature black widows.

Yes, we do--invasive species. I believe that is what is in the grill. I found a few in my storage unit. They can be distinguished by the egg sacs. Black widow's egg sacs are round and smooth, while brown widow egg sacs are round with little protrusions all around the exterior.
