50lb. braid is awefully big for a 2500-size spinning reel...but its do-able..Is it necessary...smaller braid will handle, or more improtantly, cast much better..

Anyone have the Wave Spin Reel DH5000 - I just bought it & wondering if I should backfill with mono, as I am putting Braid on? Comments appreciated. Thanks

I love braid, I think I have it on every one of my combos. It is a pain with abrasion though so you have to watch out for that.

Used Braid exclusively on my spinning reels for the past 4 years! Sufix and PowerPro are very good and reliable! I use 20# and 30# for all my spinning reels! PLEASE DO NOT BUY THE NEW SPIDERWIRE STEALTH GLOW-VIS BRAID! The UV coating was constantly rubbing off and seemed to perform very poorly! Take your $15-$20 and get Sufix or PowerPro!

The only reel I use 50# braid on is an 8000 series stradic mounted to an 11' surf rod intended to catch 60# saltwater gamefish. I use 14 # fireline on my inshore setup with a 3000 series reel and have at least 200 yd braid over two full wraps of 10 # mono backing and this casts like a rocket and thus far has managed fish up to 30 #. IMHOP, braid was made for spinning reels. It is far less affected by twist and is markedly superior in casting performance compared to identical test mono. But, it lacks abrasion and shock resistance, so I always use a mono leader, either nylon or fluoro.

I'm more than a bit skeptical of lighter strength braid. I've consistently popped braid of less than 50 lbs. rating just casting lures. This, perhaps because I like extra-fast actions and make snap-casts. My point here is that low stretch of braids eliminates slow loading of the line. This can result in very high impulse values during loading and this can cause braid to fail. This is something that have had happen with Power-Pro, Samurai (Dawia), and Fire-Line, and happen on several occasions with each of these lines.
