Seeing Robin's and Jerry's comments on Micheal Verduin and his Cap Spider Video, I though y'all might like to see the short article that is posted on the Gulf Coast Council's website concerning Buddy Price, a long time member of the Federation of Fly Fishers who is a native Texan, and the 100+ You Tube videos that Buddy has taken of of many of the best tyers in Texas and from across the South. http://www.gulfcoastfff.org/index.php?page=gcc-and-other-regional-fly-tyers-on-the-webFrom the GCC website: Have you ever wished that you could sit down this evening and tie with some on the marvelous tyers that you have seen at the IFFF Fly Fairs, EXPO's and Conclaves (shows) that have been held over the years throughout the South? Well, actually you can! You see, long time Federator, Buddy Price, has spent over ten (10) years videoing some of the nation's best tyers as they tied at Gulf Coast, Southern, South Eastern and Florida Council shows. In the finest tradition of Federators teaching others about fly fishing, Buddy has placed over 100 videos of these world class tyers, tying many of their favorite, often here-to-fore "secret", patterns (flies) on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/user/FlyFishVideo So, just set up your vise in front of your computer and spend the evening with some of the Federation's best tyers. With their clear, step-by-step instructions, you will be surprised how quickly you will learn to produce their beautiful patterns. Regardless of whether your desires run to streamers, deerhair bugs, poppers, wets, nymphs, dries, or even Cap Spiders, your fly boxes will soon overflow with great, "local", southern patterns. Oh, and before you head out to your favorite "brim hole" to insure a successful trip, learn to tie the "Cap Spider" from one of the GCC's favorite tyers of all time, the late, Michael Verduin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzZekzILGRIThen make plans to attend the next Gulf Coast Council Fly Fair (Date to be determined and posted soon!) and meet many of these same Federation tyers as they demonstrate their favorite patterns! NOTE: The Texas Council of the International Federation of Fly Fisher is excited to announce the first ever Texas Fly Expo happening in 2014 in the geographic heart of the Texas Fly Fishing Community, New Braunfels, Texas. June 12-14, 2014. See more at: http://texascouncilifff.com/texas-expo-2014/#sthash.1Cftagx4.dpufAdditionally, Jerry Harmon's own Red River Fly Fishers and Eisenhower State Park will be hosting Learn to Fly Fish on Saturday, September 14, from 9:00 to 2:00 in Eisenhower State Park on the shores of Lake Texoma. See more at: http://texascouncilifff.com/#sthash.D0XkfQHm.dpufSo, check out some marvelous tyers at your nearest IFFF Council or IFFF club event. Yeah, Buddy is a great guy, and he's done everyone that ties a wonderful service by producing his marvelous videos of Federation tyers, some of whom, like Michael, are no longer with us...
Jerry, Good Luck on your show. While I've never been able to attend (It is a hair over 500 miles from BR - each way!), I've always heard that you folks consistently put on great shows!
Kyle

Thanks Kyle: I always learn some cool stuff from things that you post. It is well past time for Buddy to be recognized for the service he has provided all of us for all of these years. I was lucky enough to be there as Buddy recorded that cap spider video and I think that was the last time Michael tied in public before he passed.
He was a good friend and I still miss him every day.

dale, We all miss the heck out of Michael... and those that didn't have the opportunity to get to know Michael Verduin will never realize how much he touched them by teaching so many of us. But thank the Lord that Buddy was there to at least capture Michael tying the Cap Spider. You know that that little tying video is closing in on 19,00 viewings! By the way in a few more days we'll post the latest edition of The Gulf Streamer, the GCC's newsletter. It's 20 pages of great stuff and is packed with great info. Plus, I've put a number of neat articles on the GCC website: http://gulfcoastfff.org/Y'all enjoy! I have the privilege of working with Mikes brother in law. We have been looking at the videos and I've been listening to tales about him all morning. I never had the honor of meeting him but I sure do love tying me some cap spiders!

It is great to see that Buddy has been properly recognized for his efforts thru all these years. There is no telling how many he has helped learn more about tying flies thru his body of work.

Heck! I guess there's no use in me starting a tying video site! There seems to be one born every minute!
