Friend wants to sale a Abu Garcia 4600 and it makes a noise only when casting. On short easy casts, no noise at all. When trying to make a long cast and to muscle the lure out, it makes a noise. So what's this from?

Any ideas? May not be worth my time or money.

If it makes the noise mostly towards the end of the cast its probably just the brake blocks squeeling no big deal.Worst case scenario is a bad bearing and even thats an easy fix.It could also be the nylon cog wheel but still no big deal.Put a drop of oil on it and take the break blocks off and see if the noise goes away.Just try not to backlash it.

The reel is smooth as can be. The drag is smooth also. Just the noise when you put that extra ummh... when making longer casts.

Grease may have dried up on the Cog wheel, as well. Make sure there is no debris in your worm gear. Pawl might be making that noise, if the worm gear is a little dirty.

For $25 it may be worth a try. Going to see if he still has the reel.
