While we are revealing our ages... my brother and I used to ride our bikes to TG&Y and buy the Zebco 202 combo for a couple of dollars as well. Later, the town got an S&H Green Stamps, Gibsons, then a Howards!!.

well I don't mean to be a smartalec but... when I was a youngster, not to long ago, my mom took me to the old closed Gibson from her home town, and I used it as a " past historical influence" history paper.  Lol but my first reel was zebco to. Had a 733, grew up fishing lake Conroe as a child. All I had was a Shakespeare "big boy" rod, my reel, a Carolina rig, and a piece of liver... PB 10lb cat at age 9. Still haven't beaten it.

I still have several worn out Zebco 202 reels from childhood. Caught a bunch of fish on those. Always thought I would rebuild them and use them with my nephews and grand-kids. I bought mine at Gibsons too along with bright yellow Fle-fly jigs made with pipe-cleaners, one of the first lures I ever used. the pipe cleaner version ...oh yeah  that's hilarious brother ..... I don't how many "rust" colored fle flys I owned back in the day
