You can run the south side up to the bridge. Idle everything North of the bridge since you have not been there before. Stumps in Monty are like petrified wood.

The stumps at Monty are harder than any other lake I have ever fished.
There is a lot of open water you can run north of the highway bridge if you know where to go. There is a distinct treeline from the west shore to the east shore if you look on a map.
If the lake level is a little low you can clearly see the stumps. If the lake is at normal pool you cannot see but a few of them. You can run from the highway bridge to the hot water outfall with no danger though.
The best advice is to idle if not sure tho. I have been fishing the lake since 1974 so I know the stumps by name. lol

Have heard reports for several weeks now on and off about a strong frog bite on the upper end. Have not in the past 2 week though.
Keep talking about making the drive to check it out, but its 20 minutes further from the house and we are catching fish where we usually go!

Dunno Gutterman. We haven't been on Gilmer in weeks and got run off by lightning this morning!
