I just put a tow hook on the front of my van because occasionally, the ramp that I use gets soft and muddy and I just dig in trying to get out, and I have had to get pulled up the ramp a couple of times. Got the tow hook, now i need a tow strap to keep in the van. My rig isn't heavy, a E150 van and a 1860 G3 and trailer. What strength tow strap would I need for this. When I get pulled, it's only a few feet and then I'm on solid ground an I'm OK. There are many out there of different sizes and breaking strengths. I'm thinking about a 2" yellow strap with hooks.

Those straps aren't very pricey that I can remember, just get a higher rated one...

2" is fine. I prefer loops versus hooks. Hooks are more flexible in that they will even work even with the stupid closed loops that Ford has. I have a 2" and have used it to jerk a 65hp Ford tractor out of mud to it's belly.

I figured the 2" version would be enough. The most I get pulled is a few feet. I like the loops also, byt the tow ring they put on my van is a closed ring, so I have to use a hook type strap. I guess it's not a biggie, I had just wanted a hook typ so I could just slip the loop over it. The truck place only charged me $38 to put it on, so I can't complain, and it's probably not going to get that much use, but when you need it, you need it.

Get you a clevis to hook up with. A 3/4" will work just fine. Below is what I carry in my truck. One strap is 2' by 30 ft, 30,000 lb.cap. The other is a 3" by 30 ft, 45,000 cap. and a 7/8" clevis.
