Tatula- $149.99
Tatula Type R- $199.99

You really just have to handle them to really see how impressive they are. I know of more than a few competing brand loyalists that are blown away. When I say the tolerances on these reels are tight as any I have ever seen I mean it. Absolutely no junky movement or play in any of it. I was on the fence about the new style knobs but they feel and look great as well. Castability is amazing too. The deal though is these are designed and built to last. This is a true high end reel at an economical price. The Type R will come in a 8.1:1 ratio and will be perfect for flipping/pitching. They also kept the worm gear away from edge of reel so that your fingers do not hit it like on some reels. In addition it has the auto clutch feature which really benefits the guys that like to flip/pitch. So many other features its hard to recall them all. Daiwa has made a commitment to dominate the $100-200 price point and this is a hell of a start. The link below has the Tatula specs:

It is a bit different type T wing design. Its not as pronounced in terms of the hood popping up on casts. The thing that really first caught my attention was the gentleman in charge of Daiwa's advertising and promotional efforts and I go back to another company that I worked for him with. He is as level headed as anyone and over the years have never heard or seen him hype anything that wasn't legit. I could hear his excitement over the phone and pick it up in emails. He was stoked and once I got to try one I understood why. I feel like its the real deal no pun intended.

Very interesting, over the years all diawa could be counted on doing was copying Garcia or someone else's new technology. They made Junk, mostly. It will be hard for me to be very impressed. But, we will see.

Wow, harsh statement. What about the TDZ? It is probably the most sought after reel by tuners. I remember as a kid in the 90s wanting a green handle flipping stick and a TDX bad, but at the time could not afford it.

Daiwa makes a great product and always have made great products. I have no affiliations with them other then a customer .

I appreciate your response and will not get into my opinions of other individual brands since I am I obviously biased. I have though noticed other brands going with swept handles as well as blue accents to denote coastal/saltwater reels which are just s few things Daiwa has done the last few years. In addition Daiwa builds in the flipping/pitching feature into most of their newer baitcasters via the thumb bar where some other brands actually charge extra for models that do that or make you purchase a reel designed just for that presentation.
I also saw the Steez family redefine true high end reels and it is still among the top if not the one others are judged against. Daiwa excels in the spinning reel category to the point even people loyal to other brands often own 1 or 2 of them. Personally I do not nor have I seen Daiwa copy anyone in the 8-10 years or so I have worked with them but again I respect your opinion though I do not share it.
Fact is every brand has improved immensely in recent years. We are lucky as consumers as these companies all push one another to come out with better products. In a nutshell an angler needs to seek out products they like and have confidence in. If its not Daiwa then no problem at all and wish you the best with whatever decision you make.
I will be more than happy to pass on any specific complaints or issues with Daiwa products to the powers that be. I will do all I can to help you get the answers or resolution you desire. I am simply here trying to educate those interested in Daiwa products if I can. I would rather focus on our products and what we do well rather than point out faults with other brands. I am more than confident that Daiwa's innovation and quality products speak for themselves.
Again no matter what brand you prefer I wish you the best in your fishing. Thanks
