Unfortunately work has kept me away from the river most of the summer... I have some serious time to make up for as soon as things slow down a bit.

I was there yesterday. They had released water late Friday night so we decided to go. We didn't catch must as we got a late start but the guy at dicks said they were jumping everywhere at daybreak. Lots of grass and moss. The water was crystal clear so we saw tons of big bass, catfish, gar and others. I wish we had stated earlier. We paddled up 3 miles just past White Rock Creek and then back down. Even though we didn't catch much we still had fun exploring more of the river.
I have been 3 times in the last 2 months and have killed them the other 2 times when we got there early in the morning.
Also saw a beautiful bald eagle right before White Rock Creek.

Not sure where you're getting your information Jon B 69. They haven't genned since around the 5th. They certainly didn't Friday. I've been about twice a week all month. Last Saturday & Sunday, & again yesterday the fish have been biting good. Last Sunday I caught 8 different species. The other 2 Saturdays I caught 6. I know you're into the cats BWD. I've been averaging 8 or so channel cats in the 20-25" range and usually a few blues mixed in. Yesterday I caught this nice blue.

Yeah saw the flow is up to 200cfs this morning. Has been below 30cfs most of the month. I got a hunch the generators have been down for maintenance, but haven't called to find out. Most of the cats I've been getting sight casting, but they're spooky as heck so you have to be stealthy. Like Jon B 69 said, they're easy to spot in the clear water.

Have wanted to fish that area for a long time, but do not know how. Where did you put in and is it public access where you can put in and park without getting into trouble. I have a canoe and ready to give it a try.

I got my info from HERE plus I was there yesterday to see the water level up higher and moving nicely. Is there another place I can get water release information?? If there is I would like it...never hurts to had multiple sources.

That's as good as any. If you look at it there is a small rise, but that's indicative of neither a release or generating IMO. I'm no expert, but I was there also. I honestly wouldn't notice a rise as slight as a few inches and 40 CFS, but I can see the reason for the confusion. That small rise and the one today makes me think perhaps they're getting the generators back online. When they generate usually you'll see the flow go well over 1000cfs, often above 2000cfs and the gauge will show a corresponding increase from ~6' to over 10'. That's part of the aggravating part of fishing there, not having any kind of schedule or way to determine when they'll generate. If you call the BRA they don't have any idea either. They don't have control over the hydroelectric part of it as I understand it. I use an app called streamflow to check the gauges. It's free and I like the format of the information, but it gets the data from USGS so it's the same.

Here's a screenshot from streamflow of the gauge height and one of the flow for the last 30 days. You can see the large spikes earlier in the month that are from hydroelectric genning. The small rise Friday would be perhaps them manipulating one of the mud gates or perhaps maintenance on the generators. Just my guess, though.

I was there around 1100 this morning, just a quick drive by on my way back to Ft Worth, and they were releasing from the mud gates but not as much as I've seen them release before.

Can anyone point me to a landmark I can Google map to find the river below Whitney? When I Google map Lake Whitney I am definitely not getting the right thing.
