My boat has been sick for the last couple of days, so after spending a little time replacing the engine mounted oil reservoir and sensor on my motor yesterday I figured we should check it out this morning. Got to the ramp about 5:30 or so. Went to launch the boat and the cranking battery was dead! Doh! I guess I should have charged that last night after working on it. Thanks to a super nice guy at the AC, first name Bob I got a jump and we were off after all the morning antics around 7am or so. Thanks Bob! We hit the river channel and headed south. Didn't get far maybe 400 yards from the ramp and the river channel blew up with fish. It was pretty short lived but we loaded up on 52 fish in about 30 minutes between us. I had to pick some folks up at Twin Points at 8:30am so I took my son over to catch his green fish for about an hour. We hit a favorite spot on the north east side of the lake with a super rocky shoreline.White spinner baits were the trick. We caught 5 spotted bass in the two to three pound range in a 75 yard stretch of bank. Very nice! Now it is about 8:45 and my folks show up at the ramp. We get them and start checking humps for sand bass.Tons of bait and hardly any good fish. Looked on a number of slopes, ridges and drops and had no problem finding bait but solid marks were scarce. Then here they go again. Surfacing in the deep water just of the mid lake hump out from Twin points. They stayed up or just under the surface for about an hour. With five people in the boat we put a hurting on them. Lots of doubles. Boats everywhere. We were right in the middle of the river channel. Nice! It was starting to heat up and we decided to try the spot that we hit them at first thing in the morning so back north we go. Back to the river channel we start marking fish immediately. These fish are relating to the edge of the river channel. We drop in with slabs and flies and start ripping lips off the bottom. Everyone needed to be off by noon and it was now officially HOT! We called it and dropped everyone back at Twin Points. Off by 12:30. All and all we caught over 200 sandies and a fist full of ditch pickles! Not bad for this time of year. Ole Ugly Slabs & flies and tail spinners for the sandies. White spinnerbait of your choice for the pickles. Water temp was 84 to 87 degrees and I did notice a little drop in the pressure today. We caught them in 40 feet and we caught them in 10 feet. One thing in common was all sand bass were either in the river channel or relating to a flat next to t h e channel. It got started a little rough but ended up pretty sweet. On top of the fish, the boat is humming and that makes me happy happy happy! thumb

Nice job! Sounds like you had a fantastic day. I was out there pretty early and did Ok. I guess I must have hit 'em when the pressure was high because the schools were small and the fish were tough to come by.

Did you fish the river channel drops adjacent to long points and shallow flats?
That's where we found them most if the morning. The majority of our fish did come from north of the island.
What boat are you in bigtex?

I have a blue Ranger.

I did venture up north. I dont really know of many spots up there. I stayed south of the island and then fished some in front of the dam.

They are moving daily, that's for sure. I am covering a bunch of water some days and some days they are 400 yards from the launch. They have not been at the normal everyday spots for a while now, but they can be tracked down.

Im glad your day turned out great. Thanks for the good information. I went 27th from 05:00pm till dark and didn't do very good, it was really windy, I marked a few decent mounds of sandies but they were on the move not hanging around. I found them surfacing in some calm water right up next to the bank, and that was located east of Twin Points Park boat ramp, but there was a wake boarder right where they were surfacing. Since they were there first I didn't get to fish them.

I have to put in a good word for an honest Mercury Outboard Specialist (Mark Gunter of Gunter Marine Sales 817-626-5693), that fixed my boat. He could have charged me for a 5 to 6 hundred extra for a part that he received for free and I wouldnt have known it. He told me he treats people like he expects to be treated. I went to him, he put me on a waiting list, when he was ready he called me and got right on my boat.
