I live in Santa Fe New Mexico and wanted to try some Texas Lakes. I've been to Alan Henry and thought it was a great fishery. Lubbock sure is proud of this lake, kind of pricey. Any how I was looking for some local opinions of the fishery and if there are any other lakes in the area I don't know about that would be worth checking out. I'm a sport fisherman strictly catch and release of bass. New Mexico fishing is pretty poor in my opinion. I appreciate any feedback

If you are in to catching a bunch of 10" spots with the occasional LMB then Alan henry is your place. I rarely fish the lake now. I fish Stamford or Sweetwater and catch quality bass every trip! Have you ever fished Amistad? PM me and i'll tell you where to catch em at Stamford.

Yeah Alan henry is probably the only lake with a good water level! Correction......decent water level. Being nearly 13 feet down is hardly good, although still alot better than alot of lakes in the state.

Make the drive to Sweetwater, Oak Creek or Amistad. Alan Henry needs to be filled in with concrete.

Sweetwater is just a puddle right now. 250 acres of surface water. Ok for a kayak maybe

Fished it twice in last week, including full moon on Tuesday night. Bomber Fat Frees shad 7 and 8 are the ticket. foxy shad is the color I have done the best with. 25 ft water off channels. slow retrieve. I caught a 6, 4 and a 3 for biggest largemouth. 13 on three ain't bad there. Lots of spots with occasional 2 pounder. probably caught 25 fish on best day. Night bite was slow but of course lost the big one about midnight. it was a good fish and pulled drag but never saw her. She decided to fly up from pulling deep and I couldn't catch up with her. crankbait came flying out of water.
They are there, you just have wade through the spots and keep plugging

Alan Henry is great for us that live in Lubbock. A lot of people complain about the spots, but at least you will catch fish. Please take the limit too! I hope you enjoy it. Be wary of the next few weeks if you go, the water will be crowded with rec boats. If can get to Amistad... Do it!
