Had that happen to me on Rayburn years ago. Was fishing the Black Forrest which was know to give big bass. Twenty feet of water with a texas rigged black lizard, tap-tap set the hook, rod bows up and the fight was on. Partner grabbed the net ready to net the state record, what comes up a 17 pound Bowfin. The noise that was made when the fish hit off the side of the boat sounded like something from a Saw movie.

Are those in any of the Hillcountry lakes? I was just reading about them on wikipedia, they seem like a pretty cool species... I wouldn't mind getting a up-close look at one!

I run into that with my BIL up in Massachussettes. A lot of lake are full of pickeral. Its really bad when fishing a crankbait. We got a on a really good crank bite on one tourney and we both hooked about 7 or 8 each that day. You keep thinking if this is a bass we got a shot here and then that thing rears its ugly head. Though after about the 4th one i kinda could tell what it was by the way they fight. On top of that they have sharp teeth and they would fray line or just plain steal our baits.
