Looking to find some pawn shop deals on rods and reels. Been to a few in my area (NW Houston Hwy 6 and 290 Area) but had no luck. I'm looking for some fee reels Curado Bantams etc and I've heard this is the best place to look for cheap and older fishing gear. Any help would be appreciated!

IMHO, eBay, Craigslist, and Bookoo would be better uses of your time and gas money. I grew up in that area and can tell you first hand, finding decent gear is gonna be pretty tough!

I found some good stuff in the local Mom/Pop pawn shops.
But you really can't expect to always find something. 3/4ths of the time, it's old and junk.
It's best to just check out the local ones on a monthly basis (unless you need something right now).
You can also try to befriend some of the staff of the Mom/Pop shops and see if they'll give you a call if they got some new stock.
They'll definitely like to see their inventory sell immediately, and it's not like Fishing gear is in high-demand (well....at least for the general populace is not).

Look on ebay. I just picked up a 6500C3 for $50 shipped and it is in excellent condition. Look at the photos carefully and stay away from any auction with out of focus pics. Even a cell phone photo is going t be in focus. Anything else indicates the seller is trying to hide something.

I am not a fan of pawn shops. I feel you are completing the cycle of crime. Drug addicts steal stuff and pawn it to get high or whatever. When people buy stuff at pawn shops, it allows the pawn shops to make money and buy more stolen goods from drug addicts only too happy to steal again.
I think you can find good deals on EBay, Craigslist and various internet forums like the TFF. Just remember the old adage: if the deal seems to good to be true, it probably is not true.

As if drug addicts cannot steal stuff and sell it on Ebay or Craigslist? There's always a risk when you buy anything used from anyone whom you do not know personally. I'd not discount a pawn shop purchase any more than Craigslist or Ebay.
Wishing I was in my kayak.
