I seem to be missing so many fish lately. I went out tonight and missed 5 fish... 5! No broken line, nothing but not setting the hook properly. I can't seem to figure out what im doing wrong. I just know I missed out on a 6 fish evening and made it a 1 fish... frustrating!!

Sometimes you just miss. Maybe let then eat it longer? Maybe they weren't taking it long enough? So many variables.

Try switching colors a little bit on you bait, they might not be taking it like they should... You're doing something right to get the bites, keep at it!

I've been throwing weightless worm a lot and jigs. I think I'm ripping the jig too soon and the weightless, they hit it shallow and run deep. I dont think I'm catching up quick enough to set the hook.

Summer time tail chasers. Find the big fish and they will eat it.

Try adding some scent to your soft plastics. I find that fish hold on a lot better with some scent.

Sometime it helps to push the barb through and then back in. this will alow the hook to penetrate even on a weak hook set.

all great advice... Just keep that bait in the water and try to forget about the ones you miss...

Use a firm (not come out of your shoes) 30 - 45 degree angle hook set. Could be smaller fish.

I think Donald is right with the "summer time tail chasers". I thought I had missed a few last night, but anything of size was eating the bait and able to be caught. Switched over just before daybreak to a chartreuse and black shallow running square bill crank and caught a lot more than on the smaller plastics. Even the little ones were hitting it like grown ups.
Good luck and stay patient!
Fish on hook! Reel him in, slowly.

Smaller fish could be the culprits, let them have it for another second or so.....also, the comment on pushing the barb through is right on! I always do that.....and most important of all, don't let it get you agitated.....when you do that, nothing goes good afterwards

If your throwing crank bait, correct me if I'm wrong now, but have been seeing video's and reading some, if fish are biting but your missing them, add a trailer hook. I guess this would apply surely for spinner bait but my guess is if it's artificial, should be a way to add trailer hook to almost anything.

I'll definately try rigging back into the plastic after pushing through. Now I have lost some due to break offs but those are more heartbreaking than frustrating. I definately get the bite so I've got that going. I hauled in some big boys over the weekend after the cold front moved in. I would like to try scent, never done that before.
